When did this all begin?

I have been such a fan of yugioh since i was a kid. it first started when i was about 8/9 years old.
i loved watching saturday cartoons, and there was a cartoon block from 6am-12pm called Cookie Jar TV
that showed tons of shows, including Liberty's Kids, some car show, and of course, yugioh (duel monsters and zexal).
i wasnt a big fan of zexal, but duel monsters really captured my heart.

My favorite arc is the Toei anime from 1998(lovingly dubbed Season 0 by fans.)I remember finding it on Youtube when i was in elementary school, probably a little after i initially found duel monsters/zexal.
i remember all of the episodes were broken up into multiple parts with titles like "This is why Yugioh Season 0 is the darkest arc."
